We live in a hyperkinetic multimedia world, shot through with light, image, sound, text, music and motion. Educating others with an eye towards deepening their understandings of media's power is a powerful charge. Harnessing media's power for creative expression is an exhilarating task. During the past few years, I've been fortunate enough to produce study guide resources for a number of remarkable multimedia projects: Daniel Quinn's visionary novel Ishmael, Parallax Pictures' ground-breaking documentary The Ad and the Ego, the pace-setting work of the New Mexico Media Literacy Project, and the Center for American Progress' provocative film Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War.
As a multimedia producer, I am able to see media through from conception to birth to completion. At MEMEfilms, we are working with classrooms and communities to make media about media. Using youth-focused media literacy education and video production, we educate others about crucial media-related public health issues - substance abuse, violence, and obesity - and have fun in the process.
